From Turbine Blades to Hydrogen: How do Advanced Coatings Extend Component Life Under Extreme Environments?

Dr Luis Isern Arrom presents industry-relevant highlights from decades of materials science research in extreme environments at Cranfield University. The Royce at Cranfield team studies the key mechanisms of degradation to design and produce coatings that extend component life using different deposition techniques, new materials, novel microstructures and advanced structures. This talk draws on real-world examples, including Thermal Barrier Coatings, coatings for corrosion and oxidation protection and work on hydrogen permeation barriers that illustrate the breadth of applications for coating protection strategies, such as turbine engines and energy generation.
