Prof. Amy Gandy

Amy is Head of the Materials Science and Engineering Programme at UKAEA, seconded into the UK Government’s commercial fusion energy programme, STEP, as the Materials Development and Realisation Manager. In 2024-2025 she brought together the UK fusion materials communities to update the UK Fusion Materials Roadmap (uk-materials-roadmap-2-0.pdf). Previously, she held a Leverhulme Trust Royal Academy of Engineering Research Fellowship and led the Fusion Materials Group as an academic in Nuclear Materials Engineering at the University of Sheffield (2015-2022). She has over 23 years’ experience investigating radiation damage effects in materials, with 11 years’ developing materials specifically for fusion power production.
